Jay Schoenberger, Principal
Jay has been involved in the investment and development of clean energy since 2005, including wind, solar, battery storage, and energy & water efficiency. To date, he has participated in the development of 4,100 MW of operating and in-construction projects, representing an aggregate capital investment in rural communities of more than $5 billion.
Jay co-founded Dakota Power Partners in 2018 and led the company in its capital raise and the origination, development, and subsequent sale of its multi-gigawatt utility-scale solar and battery storage portfolio. Jay has deep experience in all facets of large-scale clean energy investment & development including site origination, land acquisition, power marketing, environmental permitting, interconnection, project acquisition, and sales.
In addition to his work on the generation side, in 2020 Jay helped launch and raise equity capital for Echelon Energy, which works with institutional real estate owners to audit, design, implement, and measure energy & water efficiency retrofit projects. Its projects annually save clients more than 1.4 billion gallons of water and deliver electric savings with an equivalent CO2 impact of eliminating more than 27 million passenger car miles each year. Jay serves on Echelon’s Board of Directors. Prior to co-founding Dakota Power Partners, Jay served as Vice President of investments at MAP Royalty where he managed multiple investments in portfolios of wind and solar assets. Previously, Jay served as Senior Manager at Invenergy where he originated and developed wind projects in New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. Jay began his career developing distributed solar across New Jersey with REC Solar.
Jay earned a BA from Vanderbilt University and holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Drew Scoggins, Principal
Drew has structured, invested in, developed and operated energy projects since 2004, focused on upstream, midstream, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and emissions reduction. Drew has held leadership roles on multi-billion dollar and small-scale energy infrastructure projects in engineering, construction, operations, commercial strategy, finance and executive functions.
Drew founded Millennial Energy Partners, where he serves as a Member of the Investment Committee and Chief Executive of the firm’s managed investment vehicles, including the York Tactical Energy Fund. Since 2012, Millennial has invested in unconventional and conventional upstream, midstream and LNG projects in 10 U.S. states and the North Sea. Drew has served on the boards of NextDecade (NYSE: NEXT), Ultra Petroleum (NASDAQ: UPL), Amplify Energy (NYSE: AMPY) and Saddle Butte Pipeline III.
Prior to founding Millennial, Drew led commercial and operations teams at BG Group on integrated natural gas investments in the U.S., Canada, Chile, Equatorial Guinea, and Trinidad and Tobago. Prior to joining BG Group, Drew was Strategic Planning Manager and Community and Public Relations Manager with Marathon Oil from August 2005 until July 2008. Drew began his oil and gas career in 2004 with Bechtel Corporation as Project Controls Engineer residing in Equatorial Guinea, West Africa.
Drew earned a BA from Vanderbilt University and MSFS from Georgetown University and is currently pursuing a Master of Energy Transition & Sustainability at Rice University.
Brandon Powell, Director
Brandon Powell brings 15+ years of comprehensive oil and gas experience across all onshore U.S. basins, with deep expertise in M&A execution, corporate finance leadership, land and operational management.
Most recently served as CFO of Peak 10 Energy, where he led 9 successful A&D projects including a merger with Oaktree portfolio company, Strawn Petroleum (February 2024), and the acquisition of Verado Energy (August 2025). Brandon sourced and led the process for the establishment of the company’s first RBL with West Texas National Bank, closing in May 2025. In addition to financial and strategic responsibilities, Brandon also managed all land activities, including acquisition diligence, leading broker teams for leasing, buying minerals, land curative items, and surface operations.
Prior to Peak 10, Brandon was a Vice President at private equity fund, Pacolet Milliken, where he led power and infrastructure investments with a focus on renewable power and renewable natural gas. During his time there, he closed new investments in operated solar projects, a biomass power acquisition and landfill RNG projects, while also managing the existing portfolio of assets. Prior to Pacolet Milliken, Brandon spent 5+ years in investment banking roles of increasing responsibility, beginning with Scotiabank as an associate from July 2017 through August 2019, then Guggenheim Securities from August 2019 through November 2022, ending as a senior Vice President. Brandon’s focus in those roles was leading the execution of energy M&A, financing, and restructuring transactions. Prior to Scotiabank, Brandon was an in-house landman with Linn Energy, with a focus on asset development, leasing, mineral acquisition and acquisition due diligence.
Brandon earned a BA in finance and energy management from the University of Oklahoma and holds an MBA from Rice University.
